About Us

The Northern Colorado Dietetic Association (NCDA) is a non-profit professional organization representing Registered Dietitians (RDs), Dietetic Technicians, Registered (DTRs) and dietetic students in Northern Colorado. As an affiliate of the Colorado Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (CAND) and the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (AND), the nation's largest organization of food and nutrition professionals, the NCDA and its members serve the public by promoting optimal nutrition, health and well-being in a variety of settings.

Nutritionist or Dietitian: What's the Difference?

​

In the state of Colorado, anyone can use the title of nutritionist, nutrition counselor or nutrition adviser regardless of education and credentials. On the other hand, a registered dietitian and registered dietetic technician are required to meet specific educational and professional standards.

What is a Registered Dietitian Nutritionist (RDN)?

​

An RDN is an expert in food and nutrition who:

  • has a bachelor's or master's degree in nutrition

  • has completed an internship or professional experience

  • has passed a national registration exam

  • participates in continuing education

​

What is a Dietetic Technician, Registered (DTR)?

​

A DTR is a qualified nutrition technician who:

  • has completed a minimum of a two-year dietetic technician program

  • has passed a national registration exam

  • participates in continuing education

​

Where do RDNs and DTRs work?

​

RDNs and DTRs work in:

  • hospitals and health care facilities

  • schools and universities

  • government and community agencies

  • business and industry

  • private practice settings
